This detailed map covers much of the village of Harmondsworth, incl St Mary’s church, Manor Farm, etc. Coverage extends westward to the county boundary and Longfordmoor, Mad Bridge and Egglesee Farm.

Central to the 1912 map is the massive area of greenhouses set up by Alfred W Smith, the “Cabbage King”, which were served by railway sidings. Outside the centre of Feltham much is country. The 1934 map shows a more built-up Feltham, with several industries.

This very detailed map covers the southern part of Ruislip and eastern part of Ickenham. Part of the map (left blank) is Northolt Airfield. Coverage extends from Milverton Drive eastward to Bridgwater Road. Features include Ruislip Gardens station (shown being enlarged), carriage shed, Ickenham Marsh, Newpond Farm. A 1933 directory of Ruislip is included on the reverse.

Heathrow 1934 Middlesex Sheet 19.08 by Tony Painter
Author Tony Painter notes that in 1934 the picture, with its farmsteads, had changed little since the Middle Ages, but by 1936 plans were afoot to develop a civil airfield on the Fairey site nearby. Heathrow Airport was duly opened in 1946 “with limited and primitive facilities”.
