eBay Store Design by Visualsoft Italy Dolomites Alps Kompass 672 4 map set: walking hiking cycling skiing 1:35K £20.990 | The mountain group of the Dolomites, a part of the Southern Alps, lies between the Puster Valley, the Etschtal and Eisacktal in the South Tyrol, the Fleimstal in Trentino and the Piavetal in the province of Belluno. The main towns of the Dolomites are Cortina, Agordo and San Martino di Castrozza. Its' centre is formed by four valleys in which Ladin is spoken: Gröden, Hochabtei, Buchenstein and the Fassatal. On the edge of the Dolomites are the cities of Bruneck, Brixen, Bozen and Belluno. Because of their bizarre shapes, many peaks of the Dolomites are world-famous - such as the Drei Zinnen, the Geislergruppe, the Schlern, the Rosengarten, the Langkofel, the Monte Pelmo, the Monte Antelao or the Marmolata (3342 m), their highest mountain. The Dolomites are one of the most visited areas of the Alps. The touristic possibilities range from mountain tours and high altitude hikes - e.g. on ten marked Dolomite high trails - over via ferrata and climbing tours to alpine skiing or ski and snowshoe tours. Parts of the Dolomites are protected as a natural park or national park - these areas were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2009. Among the most beautiful excursion destinations in the Dolomites are the Braies Wildsee, the plateaux of the Fanes and Sennes Alps, the Karersee under the Latemar, the Lago die Misurina, the four passes around the Sella and the "Grand Canyon of South Tyrol", the Bletterbach Gorge.
