The sheet shows north-west Edinburgh and stretches out into the Firth of Forth. Areas you’ll find on this map include Granton (with Granton Harbour, the Western Breakwater, Eastern Breakwater, Middle Pier, Granton Station and the Lighthouse and Clock Tower clearly drawn), Wardie, Trinity, Bangholm, Goldenacre, Inverleith — including the Royal Botanic Garden & Arboretum and Inverleith Park — as well as Pilton, Drylaw, Muirhouse, Davidson’s Mains and the surrounding farmland to the west, with the County of the City of Edinburgh and Midlothian boundaries plainly indicated.
The sheet covers the south-east quadrant of Edinburgh and includes a remarkable cross-section of the city’s most famous landscape. Holyrood Park, Arthur’s Seat and Salisbury Crags dominate the centre, beautifully rendered with detailed contours at 25-foot vertical intervals.
This vintage National Geographic map came from the collection of an avid map collector. It does not appear to have been mounted or hung, and it is in very good condition. There is one small scuff, but no other observed flaws.
